Washington expels 60 Russian diplomats
President Donald Trump has ordered the expulsion of 60 Russian diplomats from the United States, following the nerve gas attack on a former Russian agent and his daughter in Britain.
The decision included closing the Russian consulate in Seattle and giving expelled Russian diplomats seven days to leave US territory.
The United States accused the diplomats of acting as intelligence agents.
The EU said 14 of its member states had imposed sanctions on Russia in that regard.
Poland, Germany, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, Estonia, the Netherlands and Latvia issued similar resolutions that expelled Russian diplomats from their territories in solidarity with Britain.
Moscow is accused of poisoning former Russian spy Sergei Scrippal, 66, and his 33-year-old daughter Yulia in Salisbury, southwest of the kingdom, on March 4.
Scrippel and his daughter are still in hospital and in critical condition.
Britain earlier announced a series of sanctions against Russia, including the expulsion of 23 diplomats and the freezing of bilateral contacts.
