Great trade wars in world history

China's reactionary measures on US imports entered into force on Monday.

Beijing called on Washington to start talks to prevent further damage to their trade ties, the Bloomberg news agency reported.

The United States has not responded to China's request for consultations on US steel and aluminum fees, according to a statement by the Ministry of Commerce.

China's customs duties committee said on Sunday that the imposition of duties on 128 imported US-made goods, previously announced, would come into force on Sunday.

A preliminary list released by Beijing on March 23 includes fresh and dried fruit, ginseng, wine, wine and pork, as well as some steel goods valued at nearly $ 3 billion.

This share is a fraction of Chinese imports from the United States. Fees for major types of agricultural exports to China, particularly soybeans, do not apply.

Experts believe that the outbreak of a Sino-US trade war will be reflected not only in the economies of the major powers but also in the economies of almost all the world's nations.

It is noteworthy that this trade war is not the first in world history, preceded by wars, the most important:

The Opium War

Broke out between China and the British Empire in the mid-1980s.

The First Opium War 1839 - 1842

Cause of war:

China's attempt to curb opium cultivation and import
British aspirations to reach Chinese commercial markets
China is keen to put an end to the smuggling of opium
The Chinese market is closed to businessmen and smugglers from Britain and India in order to protect them from drug trafficking
war results:

Under the "Nanjing Treaty" between the two countries in August 1842, Beijing paid huge fines to London and opened Chinese ports to the imperial merchant ships
Hong Kong has become a British colony
The Second Opium War, 1857 - 1860

Cause of war:

Britain's attempts to pave the way to China's inland provinces to seize river ports
The demands of Britain, France and the United States to review the agreements between 1841 and 1842 granted the right to trade undefined on all Chinese territory and to grant official licenses to trade in opium.
war results:

Under the 1858 Tian Jin Agreement between China and Britain, France, the United States and Russia, Beijing opened five new ports for international trade.

First English-Dutch War

Cause of war:

The growing commercial, naval and military competition between England and the Netherlands
The conclusion of English law by Oliver Cromwell, the law of navigation in 1651, allows for the trade with England through English ships exclusively or through the ships of the countries that supplied their connection without entering other intermediate ports.

 war results:

The signing of the Westminster Peace Agreement in 1654 forced the Netherlands to recognize the law of navigation.

American War of Independence: 1775-1783

Cause of war:

Is a revolution that took place in the 13 British colonies in North America that were part of the British Empire during the 18th century and were settled by immigrants on the eastern coast of North America who demanded separation from the Kingdom of Great Britain and running their own affairs.
The British Parliament's legal version of Townshend imposed one tax on lead, dyes, paper and tea as the other forced the establishment of a customs office to collect taxes in Boston.

war results:

Britain recognized the independence of the United States in 1783 and abandoned its demands on the West Coast of Mississippi and British Canada. British soldiers leave New York.
