Opening of an exhibition of "sausage dogs" in Germany
This week, a museum dedicated to the Dachshund German Dachshund, short-legged and long-bodied dogs known as "sausage dogs" will open in the southern German city of Passau, exhibiting more than 2,000 pieces, ranging from a loaf of dog-shaped bread to a huge gold statue.
Two owners of this type of dogs left their work in the sale of flowers, in order to open the museum in Bavaria, according to the agency "Reuters" news.
They said it was the first museum in the world dedicated to this genre and that they had made it from nothing in just three months.
"The world needs a museum dedicated to sausage dogs ... There is no other dog in the world that has the same reputation as a Bavarian like a sausage dog," said the founder of the museum, Sibi Kobelbeck.
The contents of the museum, which is displayed in an area of more than 80 square meters, cater to all tastes. Visitors can see stamps with pictures of dogs and art prints inspired by sausage dogs, hand puppets and porcelain figurines.
"We wanted to give this dog a center where people can come and have fun. His popularity increases because the sausage dog, in its sausage-like shape, has entered the hearts of many.
Celebrities such as Marlon Monroe, late US President John F. Kennedy and Albert Einstein, as well as the late French leader Napoleon Bonaparte.
Kopelbeck and his partner at the museum, Oliver Storz, say they have 2,000 other pieces of sausage-related items. The museum is open on Monday, 2 April.
